Greece

This is my last post from my Europe trip. I'm working on the scrapbook as well and also posted pictures on facebook. We crossed this bridge connecting one of the main islands of Greece to the mainland. It's not as big as the Mackinaw bridge, but it is very impressive.
A nice spot where we stopped for lunch. We stayed at the beach until nearly 5 afterwards. It was just beautiful.
View at dinner from the restaurant in Delphi.
I just thought this thing looked hilarious parked outside the disco around midnight. What is it supposed to be--the dogcatcher's vehicle?
We had an hour in the museum at Delphi before we went up to the site. This was a partial replication of what stood at the top of one of the pillars in the next picture.
Ruins of the temple at Delphi.

Nate and I (along with about 1/2 of the rest of the group) climbed to the top to view the stadium. When the old olympic type games were held there, athletes had to train for at least a month there to adjust for altitude.
Me covering up some of the view. :)
We had one free day of basically shopping time in Athens. We had gyros for lunch and I thought this UPS delivery "truck" was at least economical.
The site of the 1896 olympic games.
Kelly and I have almost this same picture from 6 years ago on our first European trip.

In front of the Parthenon.
A smaller temple on the same hill as the Parthenon.
I took several pictures that pretty much look the same as this. It's almost like you can't believe you're really standing there.
This is on the side of the hill up to the Parthenon. It is still in use today and has excellent accoustics. That's a grad piano under the umbrella.

Italy

Rome by night. We stopped by the Pantheon.
Then on to the Trevi fountain. We all threw a coin in over our heads (backwards) so we will come back again. :)
Close up--the owner of the house originally built this to distract from his daughter looking out the window. She was really beautiful but he hoped people would look at the fountain instead.

Group shot by the Trevi Fountain
Matt is a "chaperone in training". He also went on the trip in 2006.
Entrance to Vatican City
Pope's gardens.
This was the first time we were able to see a bunch of sculptures in the Vatican Museum.

This ceiling is flat--just painted to look 3-D
These letters are 6 feet tall inside St. Peter's Basilica.
The Pieta by Michaelagelo. We weren't able to take pictures inside the Sistine Chapel.
The main altar inside St. Peter's.

The royal Swiss guard who work for Vatican City.
You could take pictures of this all day long. It is truly amazing.
Inside The Coliseum.
Group shot.

A smart car.
Makanna eating mini pringles.
Rachel, Tammy, and Kelly on the island of Capri.
A view of Capri. We were there for about 6 hours--many thought this was the highlight of the trip.
We had a 1 hour boat tour around the island that was really nice. We went through the kissing tunnel in the middle rock.

Sorrento--where we stayed one night.

Most of the roofs were gone, but this one at the bath house stayed intact because it was stone and round.

Pompei had running water even though the city was destroyed in 79 BC

Italian countryside
We watched the sunset from the deck of our overnight ferry to Greece.
Kelly and I had done the same thing 6 years ago. The sunset was still amazing!
We had this picture taken to match the one from our first Europe trip.
